Jay Partridge has a passion for turning and carving bespoke pieces of artwork from what nature provides in wood, seeds and grass roots in to something beautiful for people to enjoy.
‘Nature provides me with what I need. A fallen tree is a gift which lends itself to being crafted. It’s not until the tools meet the timber as it turns on the lathe that it finds its own natural shape. Each piece has its own feel to be turned into something individual. I enjoy crafting natural materials like a seasoned oak which has uniformity, to the chaotic form of an Australian banksia seed.’
Jay also draws inspiration from everywhere he goes, from the antique furniture in a National Trust property, the architectural features of old buildings and the stonework of the Natural History Museum to the shapes of a Kaffe Fassett patchwork quilt.
A joiner by trade, Jay comes from a long line of master craftsmen, artists, bench joiners and furniture makers. He has spent over 25 years working in commercial interiors and runs our family business Partridge Interiors Ltd alongside our new venture Partridge Woodcraft which we set up in 2016 and where you can find his latest work and commissions. Jay lives with his wife Claire and family in Leamington Spa. We are excited to be exhibiting and demonstrating at Warwickshire Open Studios and Art in the Park.
